The Health Awareness Committee at the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has organized a three-day training course on mental health and psychosocial support, held from 26 to 28 August.
The initiative aimed to prepare a qualified team of volunteers capable of providing psychological assistance to those in need, particularly during crises and emergencies, which reflects the Society’s commitment to delivering comprehensive humanitarian services that extend beyond immediate relief.
The training programme was designed to equip volunteers with essential skills to support individuals experiencing psychological distress, whether caused by natural disasters, accidents, or other difficult circumstances. Sessions covered key topics including psychological first aid, recognizing signs of emotional strain, providing empathetic support, and connecting individuals with available resources for further assistance. The course sought to build a cadre of specialized volunteers ready to respond promptly and effectively, ensuring psychological support is available at critical moments.
On the sidelines of the programme, Ms. Muyssar S. Awadhalla, Head of the Health Awareness and the Blood Bank Committees at BRCS, emphasized that the Society views mental health as an integral part of overall well-being, and noted that this course was introduced to strengthen volunteers’ ability to address the psychological needs of crisis-affected individuals.
Ms. Muyssar S. Awadhalla further underlined that the Society is committed to continuously enhancing the skills of its human resources to ensure the highest level of service to the community, highlighting that effective psychological support can play a pivotal role in helping individuals overcome trauma and regain stability in their lives.
