The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), represented by Ms. Tufool Aldaghas, Secretary of the Society, successfully completed the DPO HA Programme “Data Protection in Humanitarian Action”, held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 16 to 20 June 2025.
Participation in this programme reflects the Society’s continuous commitment to strengthening its humanitarian capabilities and aligning its operations with the best international practices.
The course attracted a diverse cohort of twenty-eight experts and practitioners from around the globe, alongside representatives Maastricht University and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Its curriculum provided participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to handle personal data in humanitarian settings while maintaining full compliance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the core principles of humanitarian action.
Training modules covered fundamental concepts, principles, and obligations related to data protection, individual rights, legal bases for data processing, and the distinct roles and responsibilities of data controllers and processors. Additional sessions examined the management of biometric data, international transfers of personal information, data protection impact assessments designed to mitigate risk, security measures and breach response procedures, and considerations specific to cash transfer programmes.
This training represents an important milestone in the Society’s ongoing effort to cultivate professional competencies in humanitarian work and to enhance its capacity to ensure full compliance with international data protection standards, thereby strengthening the quality and integrity of the humanitarian services it delivers.
