The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) marked World First Aid Day under the theme “First Aid and Climate Change” with a community event held at The Avenues Mall on Saturday, 13 September. The initiative reflected the Society’s commitment to raising awareness of the importance of essential skills in enabling individuals to respond effectively to both health and environmental challenges.
The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Nilofer Jahromi, BRCS Member of Board and Head of the Young and Youth Committee and the Agricultural Environmental Team at the Society. It was arranged in cooperation and coordination with the First Aid Committee and other committees within the Society. The activities attracted significant public participation and interaction, with particular emphasis placed on the vital role of first aid in addressing the growing impacts of climate change and highlighting the importance of swift action during health emergencies triggered by natural disasters.
The program included a series of interactive stations designed to teach basic first aid skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, proper responses to choking incidents, and treatment of minor injuries. In addition, the activities provided essential awareness sessions on the impact of climate change on public health and the necessary preparedness measures for related emergencies. This approach underscored the strong connection between the humanitarian mission of the Society and its environmental responsibility.
Dr. Nilofer Jahromi explained that through such initiatives the Society aims to raise community awareness of the value of first aid as a fundamental life skill, particularly in the context of the environmental challenges being faced today and noted that climate change is introducing new forms of risk that demand societies be more prepared and adaptable in their responses to accidents and disasters.
This initiative formed part of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society’s continuous efforts to strengthen health and safety within the community. It also highlighted the Society’s leadership in humanitarian work and reinforced the importance of incorporating environmental considerations into its awareness and relief activities to align with global developments and serve society more effectively.
