Subic Freeport, Philippines \u2013\u00a0 The Philippine Red Cross will\u00a0implement projects in partnership with the Bahrain Red Crescent\u00a0Society and the Bahrain Royal Charity Organization for the benefit of\u00a0the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.<\/p>\n
In a signing ceremony held in Subic Freeport,\u00a0 Philippine Red Cross\u00a0Chairman Richard Gordon said that the joint project would benefit the\u00a0survivors of typhoon Yolanda in Eastern Visayas.<\/p>\n
Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay, with Subic Bay Metropolitan\u00a0Authority Chairman Roberto Garcia, witnessed the signing ceremonies.<\/p>\n
Gordon, who noted that this was the first joint project to be\u00a0implemented by the Royal Charity Organization of the Kingdom of\u00a0Bahrain and the Philippine Red Cross, said that it demonstrated the\u00a0friendship \u2018 between our two countries \u00a0can be counted on not only\u00a0during good times, but also the bad times.<\/p>\n
Gordon added that the nearly two million dollars will go to the\u00a0construction of 500 houses, and a vocational training center in\u00a0Tacloban. In addition, another vocational training center will be\u00a0built at the logistics hub of the Philippine Red Cross within the\u00a0Subic Freeport Zone.<\/p>\n
Gordon said that these joint efforts represent a very strong\u00a0humanitarian effort, and a first between our two countries.<\/p>\n
His Highness Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Royal\u00a0Charity Organization, said that there is a very special bond between\u00a0Bahrain and the Philippines. \u00a0Once we heard about the disaster, we responded immediately.<\/p>\n
We have\u00a0an open hand, and an open heart to others, especially the people who\u00a0survived the disaster. He said.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Nasser, who is also a sportsman, said that he wanted to build\u00a0the vocational training centers in Tacloban and Subic to, really\u00a0encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n
He also said that the Philippines, and Subic, in particular, held an\u00a0attraction for him and that although this is my first time here,\u00a0 it will definitely not be\u00a0 the last.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mustafa Al Sayyed, Secretary General of the Royal Charity Organization, said that the joint aid effort in Tacloban flowed out of\u00a0the good relations between the Philippines and Bahrain. It is in\u00a0response to the unfortunate event of typhoon Yolanda that hit the\u00a0Philippines.<\/p>\n
Sayyed noted that Sheihk Nasser \u201cmade an immediate response, to send\u00a0aid, and support when he heard of what happened in the Philippines.. \u201c<\/p>\n
For his part,\u00a0 Dr. Fawzi Amin,\u00a0 Secretary general of the Bahrain Red\u00a0Crescent Society, expressed confidence that its counterpart, the\u00a0Philippine Red Cross, \u201dwill be able to implement the project in the\u00a0best possible way. There will be more projects like this, and this is\u00a0just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n
PRC Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang said that such partnerships\u00a0enable the Philippine Red Cross to reach more beneficiaries and do\u00a0more for the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.<\/p>\n
Pang also said that the training centerswill increase the capacity\u00a0of the Philippine Red Cross to respond to major disasters, and fortify\u00a0our volunteers with the knowledge and skills required to perform on\u00a0multiple fronts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
