The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) will attend the “Conference of Humanitarian Leadership for the MENA Region,” which will be held in Cairo from February 28 to March 1, 2022 and is organized by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Regional Mission in the MENA region and the Egyptian Red Crescent Society. Following the conference, on March 2, 2022, the Society will attend the “MENA Leaders’ Consultative Meeting,” which will be held at the same venue.
Bahrain Red Crescent Secretary-General Mr. Mubarak Al Hadi said that this participation comes within the framework of the Bahraini Red Crescent’s keenness to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain in these high-level international events that discuss the various trends and challenges of relief and humanitarian action, its role in strengthening and implementing international humanitarian law, developing legal frameworks to respond to disasters, and ensuring an environment conducive to volunteering.
“We stress the importance of this conference in increasing alliances between the various components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in the face of the challenges that continue to plague many countries in the Middle East, such as Syria, where millions of internally displaced persons and refugees in neighbouring countries continue to live in difficult humanitarian conditions, and the burdens borne by neighbouring countries.” Mr. Al Hadi said.
Mr. Al Hadi pointed out the readiness of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society to interact with the various topics and themes expected to be presented at this regional conference, including the impact of the Corona pandemic on the health sector and on various groups in society, and the distinguished role played by the Society’s volunteers in supporting national efforts to address the pandemic, including the Society’s ability to continue working and provide assistance to those in need despite exceptional health conditions.
Mr. Al Hadi also noted that the issue of climate and the environment continues to receive global attention and discussion among the various actors working in the field of relief, particularly since environmental degradation, drought, and other factors exacerbate the problems of food shortages, poverty, and displacement, and that the conference’s discussion in Cairo on this issue, either as a main topic or as a sidebar to its work, is important for furthering global solidarity around this issue.
