The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) organized a training course in international humanitarian law, within the framework of the Society’s work to implement the joint training plan for this year with the International Committee of the Red Cross for the GCC countries.
About 30 members of the Society participated in the two-day workshop that dealt with several themes, including international humanitarian law and armed conflicts, objects protected under international humanitarian law, the relationship of international humanitarian law to human rights law, and the concept of direct participation in hostilities. Mr. Moez Al-Hadhali, Mr. Ali Al-Badrawi, and Ms. Zakia Boukamal attended the session.
The Secretary-General of the Society, Mr. Mubarak Al-Hadi, valued the partnership with the ICRC, which comes as an extension of a long history of cooperation and training over the past years, in which the experiences and practices of the Red Crescent were refined on the one hand, and the graduation of new trainers is being prepared to continue the same approach.
In his speech during the course delivered on his behalf by the head of the Public Relations Committee of the Society, Ali Kaddem Modon, Al-Hadi explained that this training course comes in the context of qualifying volunteers in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and comes within a series of training courses that the Red Crescent started with the International Committee This year. The rehabilitation course for volunteers was completed, and it will be completed with the rest of the programs according to the plan, if conditions permit, in advanced first aid, psychological support, media, and the development of skills for managing daily administrative tasks and in humanitarian negotiations.
Al Hadi praised the good level of qualification that the Society’s volunteers reached, especially those who continued to develop themselves, as they have become today trainers and leaders thanks to this type of development program. He urged the participants to be patient and adhere to the program set for the course, as well as the trainers’ directives, instructions, and focus to achieve the desired benefit.
