The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) declared its intention to organize an environmental course in cooperation with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross organization, to focus on protecting the environment in GCC states through increasing green spaces inside and outside homes and workplaces.
The Society will organize this course remotely over three days from 11 to 13 January, in the presence of representatives of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross societies of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the course will be lectured by Dr. Nilofer Jahromi, Head of Charity Agricultural Project at the Society, assisted by the members of the committee of agricultural engineers and environmental specialists.
Mr. Mubarak Al Hadi, Bahrain Red Crescent Act General Secretary, stressed that this course comes within the framework of the society’s keenness to include the environmental aspect in its relief and humanitarian work, as environmental disasters such as floods, desertification, and severe heat waves constitute one of the most serious challenges to humans, and reducing their danger is everyone’s responsibility.
“In this context, I refer to a recent call by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies regarding the need to urgently confront climate warming, and the Federation’s warning of a bigger catastrophe than the COVID-19 pandemic in light of the continuous climate change and its great danger in medium to long-term to the GCC states, planet Earth and human life as a whole” Al Hadi added.
Dr. Jahromi explained that the training course will be held under the title “Home Garden”, which will focus on encouraging everyone to plant all possible spaces in their homes and workplaces, through developing existing gardens or planting new ones.
“This course will discuss many topics, including introducing the best plants suitable for cultivation in the garden according to the region and climate, in addition to plant reproduction, irrigation system in gardens, recycling of garden waste, and greenhouses.” Dr. Jahromi concluded.
