Members of the disaster response teams of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), attended the 10th workshop on risks and crises to discuss updating the national matrix and establishing joint coordination mechanisms. The workshop was organized remotely by the National Committee for Disaster Response.
During the workshop, Bahrain Red Crescent’s volunteers learned about the active and pivotal role of the National Committee in facing disasters, the role of the media in crises and disasters, the national emergency plan to combat oil pollution, and how to analyze and evaluate the risks that lead to or resulting from disasters.
Mr. Mubarak Al Hadi, Bahrain Red Crescent Director-General/Act General Secretary, emphasized the significance of such participation in preparing volunteers to assist in disaster management following international standards for disaster management. In addition to focusing on matters related to technology concerned with disasters, represented by the emergency assessment, and providing relief and humanitarian aid in emergencies, developing teamwork as a team.
“These workshops come within the framework of the strategies set by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society to form relief teams, and to attract volunteers to the Society to advance the achievement of the goals and principles of the International Movement of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross on the one hand, and to contribute to the national efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in facing disasters on the other hand.” Al Hadi concluded.
The members of the disaster committee of the Red Crescent Society who participated in this event are Sawsan Al-Aradi and Abdullah Al-Fardan. The Bahrain Red Crescent Society attaches special importance to training its volunteers in disaster management, not only at the local level, but even in external missions, especially in light of the existence of unified international standards for disaster management, which is part of what is known as the (Sphere Project), which facilitates response to deal with the international bodies in the field of relief, not to mention training them on the code of conduct for the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the field of relief, at the local and international levels.
