The Secretary-General of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, Dr. Fawzi Abdullah Amin, held a meeting with representatives of Our Seas Clean (OSC) National Campaign -Bahrain Volunteer Diving Team- to discuss the coordination of BRCS volunteers with the OSC campaign that runs through September 21 across the country.
The meeting gathered the First Aid Committee, Public Relations Committee, Youth Committee and Agriculture Team. During which, Dr. Amin confirmed the readiness of BRCS to participate in this campaign, organized and managed by the Bahrain Diving Volunteer Team in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Environment and other concerned entities such as the Ministry of Interior (Coast Guard Department) The Directorate of Maritime Surveillance and Fisheries, the United Nations Environment Programme, Ministry of Works and Municipal Affairs, Bahrain Airport Services Company and others.
Dr. Amin further pointed out that this participation also aims to raise awareness of the need to avoid dumping waste in the seas because of the risks this phenomenon poses to marine life, and provide a clean environment and maintain a life suitable for seafarers and fishermen, praising the efforts of the campaigners especially in terms of extracting Waste from the sea is sorted, recycled and distributed for charity or safely disposed.
Dr. Amin stressed that the Bahraini Red Crescent puts the issue of environmental first, for its importance of providing human life sources of food, shelter and health, while the phenomena of climate change and desertification represent great challenges for relief and humanitarian work around the world, as the world is witnessing major climate changes that call for the concerted efforts of the international community to face them and reduce their negative impact.
