Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Arab League members and representatives of six foreign national societies along with thirteen national societies from the MENA region all were gathered in Amman at a meeting held by the ICRC and the IFRC discussing “Health & Water in the Region”.
Secretary-General of the Bahraini Red Crescent Dr. Fawzi Amin said that the meeting aimed at acknowledging the considerable efforts and progress made by the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the MENA region in providing more effective humanitarian assistance to disaster affected and vulnerable people at regional and international levels in the implementation of health, water, sanitation and hygiene activities, calling on all national societies of MENA to take the necessary measures to follow up on and implement the IFRC & ICRC strategic conference 2030.
“The meeting included a session discussed the outcomes of Amman First-aid meeting 2017, determining to grow and sustain Red Cross and Red Crescent humanitarian services and promote more community level actions across MENA, with a renewed emphasis on local, national and regional partnerships, To play a more proactive role and take more effective measures in promoting peace, and a culture of tolerance and non-violence guided through our shared and globally recognized humanitarian values and capacities.” he added.
He assured BRCS proactive role to meet National Societies measures, through changing driving regulations for new drivers to undertake first aid training before receiving or renewing their licenses, Also including first aid as a subject to be taught in schools.
During the meeting Dr. Amin presented First aid courses made by the society, showcasing volunteers’ efforts fighting Cholera in Yemen and the Mobile clinics initiative in Lebanon.
The meeting also included a Volunteer’s Psychosocial Support session with the goal of better training and preparing volunteers in helping beneficiaries and assuring they are motivated and entertained.
