The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) participated in the Regional Meeting of Workers in the Field of restoring family links in the GCC, which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was represented by Mr. Ahmed Idris and Ms. Iman Yousef.
The two-day event discussed the strategy of those working in the field of restoring family links for the years 2020-2025, which is designed to facilitate the work of Red Crescent and Red Cross members working in this field, in addition to preparing a comprehensive report by the end of 2023 on activities related to the restoration of family links implemented by National Societies, including the Bahrain Red Crescent Society.
The meeting was attended by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the regional delegation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and those working in the field of restoring family links in the GCC. And it discussed the issue of migration and displacement, the field of restoring family ties and restoring contact between displaced persons, mechanisms to identify their needs and challenges, and ways to provide them with the necessary assistance that falls within the scope of international humanitarian law.
A specialized team reviewed the speed of response of the ICRC and Red Crescent to the incident of the cyber-attack of the Family Links website and the measures taken to protect the data, stressing the need to take the necessary measures to protect the data of all National Societies and enhance the levels of cybersecurity, preparedness for such incidents, and stressed the need for data protection from both the ICRC and National Societies.
