Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) Director-General/Act General Secretary, Mr. Mubarak Al Hadi, affirmed the Society’s keenness to sustain effective coordination with the National Red Crescent and Red Cross societies to continue providing relief and humanitarian support to floods’ victims in Sudan. This comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s relief contributions to the brotherly Sudanese people who suffer in challenging conditions that require assisting them to overcome this crisis.
This was discussed during the participation of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society in a remote meeting organized by the Arab Organization for the Red Crescent and the Red Cross. In the meeting, Sudan’s humanitarian situation was evaluated after heavy seasonal rains caused sudden floods and the collapse of river banks in Khartoum, leaving thousands of internally displaced persons, refugees, and homeless who are in desperate need of assistance.
During the meeting, reports were viewed containing comprehensive information about the floods and their damages, and the efforts to provide essential aid in terms of food baskets, hygiene kits, provision of shelters, primary health care, medical examinations, medication distribution, psychological support, and family reunification, these contributions were provided through the teams present on-site. During the meeting, a list was reviewed containing the essential needs of those affected by the disaster and how to send them through coordination between the Red Crescent and the Red Cross’s national societies.
“Bahrain Red Crescent Society remains an indispensable part of the effective humanitarian movement of the Arab Organization of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, and one of its essential pillars. We maintain our work in coordination and consultation with the National Red Crescent and Red Cross societies to provide a rapid response to those affected by the flood disaster in Sudan. We should also praise the exceptional efforts achieved by the Arab Organization of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, and its regular data updates on flood losses and the requirements of the humanitarian situation in Khartoum.” Al Hadi said.
It’s noteworthy that The Bahrain Red Crescent Society has provided $50,000 as a donation to the Sudanese Red Crescent after the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society took the initiative to approve this donation. This contribution comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s relief efforts to the brotherly Sudanese people and to provide them with assistance in their ordeal, and to mitigate the effects of this disaster that displaced tens of thousands of Sudanese, whose homes were destroyed by the floods.
